Cooking With My Girlfriend
My friend Dan started drinking protein shakes, what I call “guy” protein shakes (just the protein powder and milk,) and I’ve been considering doing something similar.  This actually sounds really good!

Carol’s Protein ShakeServes 1
I have long been intrigued by the dedication with which my boss and friend, Carol, makes her morning protein shake. I finally decided to ask her for the recipe. She has made this protein shake mixture for breakfast for over 10 years. She says it really packs a lot of staying power and revs her up in the AM. I believe her, because she is a major morning person, which is a quality that induces awe from a night owl insomniac like me. I gave it a whirl this morning, it was mighty tasty and I do feel that it gave me a nice kick in the pants energy wise! It certainly felt more like a “meal” than most of the smoothies that I have made recently.
While Carol said that she often uses a strawberry and raspberry combo, I went with blueberries and raspberries. I also chose to add a tablespoon of milled flaxseed for a nice dose of omega-3s, and used unsweetened almond milk.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup of fresh or frozen unsweetened fruit
1 scoop soy protein powder
1 cup unsweetened soy milk (or other unsweetened non-dairy milk)
1 tablespoon natural peanut butter
INSTRUCTIONS
Step  One: Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth. Add water if necessary to reach desired consistency.
